Commemorations to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings - TopicsExpress

Commemorations to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings have begun in northern France, with a candlelit vigil at a key bridge seized by allied airborne troops at the start of the campaign. Queen Elizabeth II and heads of state and government, including Prime Minister Tony Abbott, will join hundreds of veterans of the campaign in paying tribute to the thousands of soldiers, sailors, and airmen who died capturing the beaches of Normandy from the Germans.
