Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) Joint Public Advisory Committee Meeting and Council Session Webcasts – July 16 & 17, 2014 On behalf of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, Environment Canada invites you to participate in an interactive, live webcast with North America’s top environmental officials. On July 16, the CEC’s Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) will host a public forum to discuss transboundary natural resource management, with an emphasis on waters, climate, and the importance of Traditional Ecological Knowledge. In collaboration with seasoned experts from industry, NGOs, academics and government, participants will tackle questions related to policies, regulations, and incentives necessary to promote the sustainable management of transboundary natural resources in Canada, Mexico and the United States. On July 17, 2014, Canadian Minister of Environment Leona Aglukkaq will host Mexico’s Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources Juan José Guerra Abud and US Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy for this year’s CEC Council Session. The Council Session will include a moderated discussion on Traditional Ecological Knowledge and New Priorities for the CEC in 2015-2020. Both sessions will be broadcast live from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, at cec.org/webcast. Attendance is open to the public and free of charge. This event represents an opportunity to hear from and interact virtually with others in North America about meeting the challenges of natural resource management through cooperation and participation across borders. Each year, the Council of the CEC – the federal environment ministers from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) region – meets to discuss their agenda for environmental cooperation in North America under the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC).
