Commissioner defends birthday activities of Jang By BONIFACE WETKUM and KENNETH DAKOP PLATEAU State commissioner for Information and Communications, Barrister Olivia Dazyam has said that the activities that were lined-up for the celebration of the 70th birthday of Governor Jonah David Jang of Plateau state was not a “funfair but, a celebration of service to humanity” Dazyam disclosed this to newsmen in Jos while reeling out activities that were lined up for the commemoration of the governor’s birthday which took place last week. According to the commissioner, the activities started on March 13, 2014, with a visit to orphanage homes by the governor. Friday March 14, a lecture titled “Population dynamics and security challenges in Northern Nigeria” is expected was delivered by former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Plateau State and lecturer at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Abuja, Professor Dakas Clement Dakas, the occasion would be chaired by the Senate President. The public lecture which was in collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru was held at the Unity Hall of the Institute. According to Dazyam, the event was climaxed with a Thanksgiving service at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Du, Jos South LGA, March 15, 2014, which would be followed immediately with a luncheon at the Women in Agriculture and Youth Empowerment (WAYE) Foundation, Doi village, Jos South LGA while soliciting for cooperation from the media and all stakeholders, the commissioner said security was beefed up in the state as the President, Goodluck Jonathan, diplomatic corps, religious and traditional leaders are expected to grace the occasion.
