Commissioner for Victims Rights, Michael OConnell, says that while robbery for the offender is about the money stolen or other personal gain, for the victim robbery is a violent crime, which may cause profound and long-lasting effects. Young people such as those working at Subway go to work to earn money to support themselves as students, to support families and for other reasons - they do not go to work expecting to be robbed. Unfortunately, many young people are vulnerable to victimisation because they work in soft targets that offenders see as attractive places to perpetrate robbery.
