Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), - TopicsExpress

Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), needs to be replaced.. almost as badly as Nathan Deal needs removed. Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D. and Nathan Deal are doing a great public health disservice to Georgia, as are the health districts under Fitzgeralds direction all around the state. I got a bill from a laboratory company (LabCorp) saying my insurance (Alliant Gold Plan purchased via the federal exchange.. one of the best) denied the claim. Upon calling North Georgia Health District (with Jeffery Volman, Director) where the lab services were provided (and selected by them.. NOT I), I was informed that the ACA insurances do not cover LabCorp services (again... GaDPHs selected lab, not mine!) and that it was my sole responsibility to find out which labs my insurance covers before the outside reference lab services were provided. This is an apparent hidden ACA obstruction absurdity that Nathan Deal and Brenda Fitzgerald have built into the public health system of our state, and it is an atrocity. Typically, when a payer (insurance) refuses a routine lab charge, its because the lab doesnt meet QA/QC standards, which is another potential concern for public health. Expecting a patient to ask which lab the doctor chooses is like asking which brand of bandaid the clinic chooses before charges are submitted to the insurance company for payment. North Georgia Health District doesnt allow the patients to select a preferred lab, nor do they inform the patient what lab is used... they certainly post no notices nor make anyone aware. This isnt only about me, I would pay they charge if it were valid, which it is not. This is about 1000s of other patients in Georgia who use the public health system, which I told the clinic... and their RUDE response... you just need to worry about yourself, and stop worrying about everyone else! (they know well my commitment to voluntarism, including my position as Co-Chair as the North Georgia Health District Ryan White Needs Assessment Task Force (which is another absolute joke). Their words of cynicism are typical there and typical of Nathan Deals administration. I use this clinic now solely for the physician, Mark Elam... he is truly awesome! I will press this until Deal is DONE and Fitzgerald and Volman are summarily FIRED and until Hell freezes over if necessary!
