Commissions a burden on residents and ratepayers CHITREST is worried by the latest developments that as the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Hon. B.J. Matiza was purportedly consulting residents in Chitungwiza on the issue of the so-called illegal structures, government was on the ground in Ruwa and Damofalls yesterday demolishing tuck-shops and houses. In Chitungwiza, numerous commissions have come to carry out investigations on similar issues. These include notably the Erica Jones, Fungai Mbetsa and currently the B.J. Matiza led investigation teams respectively. Out of the previous four commissions that have been mandated to deal with the same issue in the past five years nothing tangible has materialized serve to drain huge amounts of money from the already haemorrhaging council. Each of the afore-mentioned commissions gobbled not less than US$200 000 in allowances and other expenses. This have led to the loss of close to US$1 million by the council which could have been channelled to other service delivery related issues. We therefore warn the Government to immediately stop the illegal, satanic and foolish act of banditry. We are a law abiding nation which is different from troubled spots like Mozambique and DRC. We want peace in Zimbabwe and the government must respect our constitution and other international legal instruments.
