Committee Finalises Report On APC Registration The Joint Inter-Merger Committee (JIMC) of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has said that the party hopes to fulfil all the conditions for its registration by the end of the week. Speaking after what the committee referred to as its final meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), said the party is working towards submitting all the items requested by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the same time. He said the merger committee had come up with a list of nominations for the party’s interim executive committee and submitted the list for the different parties to consider. The parties involved in the merger are the ACN; Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP; Democratic Peoples Party (DPP); and a faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The parties announced their plan to merge in February and nominated their representatives into the JIMC, which was the hub of the merger activities. The JIMC eventually broke into sub-committees to handle specialized issues to ensure smooth merging of the parties. At its meeting on Wednesday, the JIMC reviewed and finalized its report, which will be presented to the meeting of the leaders for possible adoption on Thursday. Highlights of the report include the membership of the interim leadership of the association as well as the ongoing process of its registration with INEC. The committee, it was learnt, had allotted different slots in the National Working Committee, NWC, with ACN getting the chairmanship position and six other slots; while the ANPP got the position of the National Secretary and five others; and CPC, the National Treasurer and other five slots. DPP and APGA on their parts got four slots in the interim leadership each. It was not clear which positions were allotted to each of the parties except those of National Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. Although the National Chairmen, Secretaries and Treasurers of the three parties has signed the application for registration to INEC to meet the requirement of Section 84 (3) of the Electoral Act 2010 (amended), the JIMC moved a step further few days ago by appointing a three-member interim leadership to pilot the affairs of the association pending its registration. Those appointed are the National Chairman of ACN, Bisi Akande, who is now the interim National Chairman of APC; while the National Secretary of ANPP, Tijjani Tumsah, will perform similar functions in the association. Sadiya Faruq, the National Treasurer of CPC will also play that role in the association.
