Communist Party of Swaziland annual summer school to focus on campaign mobilization to unban parties 15 December 2014 Praxis – the artful combination of theory and practice will take centre stage at the 2014 annual summer school of the Communist Party of Swaziland, to be held in Mpumalanga province in South Africa from 19th to 29 December. The school will focus on how best to mobilise the working class, poor and oppressed of Swaziland, as well as all progressive sectors of society, for the priority issue of our time: the unbanning of all political parties and formations in our country. This is the theme of the CPS 2014-15 Red October Campaign. It is a strategic campaign, as the breaking of the ban on parties and free association is the key necessity for progress towards democracy. This includes ensuring the full operational freedom of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA), which is treated by the Mswati regime as essentially an illegal organization. The campaign also links to the crucial demand for the release of all political prisoners and detainees, including Mario Masuku, President of the People’s United Democratic Movement, and Maxwell Dlamini, Secretary General of the Swaziland Youth Congress, and the human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko and journalist and editor Bheki Makhubu, Amos Mbedzi and Zonke Dlamini; the last four already convicted for challenging the Mswati dictatorship in various ways. Mobilisation is a core concept of communist theory and includes a variety of strategic and tactical approaches. It is only meaningful when applied in practice to specific situations with definite goals. Swazi communists will use the summer school to examine these elements with a view to advancing the Red October campaign demands, and significantly shifting the freedom struggle in Swaziland to a new stage. Comrades will look in particular at forms of mobilization in localized settings in Swaziland – communities, the shop floor, among students, as well as in the larger frameworks of the trade union movement and multi-class pro-democracy organisations. Mobilisation is also an important issue for the CPS in exile, among the progressive formations of the political scene in South Africa, in particular the ANC-led Alliance. The school will cater for party activists from inside Swaziland and in exile in South Africa. Contact Kenneth Kunene General Secretary 072 594 3971 Felix Mabaso International Organiser 074 922 8277
