Community Calendar for Monday, January 20, 2014 Monday 1/20 •There is no school today for 509-J students in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. •Head Start and Early Head Start programs are CLOSED today. Staff is in training. All other ECE programs are open. •The I H S Clinic is closed today due to the federal holiday. Tribal departments in the Health and Wellness Center are open. •Here is what is on today’s Tribal Council Agenda: This morning, the Secretary-Treasurer will have an update on the Management Plan, the February Council Agenda and Draft Resolutions. In the afternoon will be a Legislative Conference Call and Enrollments. •Representative Greg Walden is holding a town hall meeting in Madras this morning at 9 at the Jefferson County Senior Center. Citizens are encouraged to attend and bring questions for Representative Walden. •Students planning to use the tribal scholarship for college need to attend a FAFSA workshop. There is a workshop in Warm Springs this morning from 10 till noon at the Administration Building. There will be 2 more – on January 31st and March 7th. Call Higher Education at 553-3311 for a list of items you need to bring with you. •Today’s Fitness Activities in Warm Springs – Walking/Low Impact Strength Training at the Family Resource Center at 10am, Senior Fitness Class at the Senior Building at 10:45 and, Functional Fitness Class at 12:10 at the Community Center •The “I Have A Dream” Family Symposium and Lantern Launch is this afternoon from 1 to 5:15pm at the Community Center. For more information contact Carol at Recreation or Sarah at Community Health. •There’ s a food handler’s class today from 2-4pm in the I H S atrium. •Soaring Butterflies and Warrior Spirit Classes for high school age youth are held every Monday from 4:30-6:30pm in the Community Counseling Center prevention room. It’s for boys and girls and offers culturally based teaching, crafts, activities and field trips. •A Weekly Journaling and Bible Study Class for women will begin this evening 5-8:00 at High Lookee Lodge. Journals and bibles are provided. •There is a Warm Springs Nation Little League Community Meeting today at 6pm in the Community Center Social Hall to elect 2014 officers. Anthony Davis is available as a handyman for hire. He can do tasks such as home repair, debris removal and help with any in or outdoor work. His phone number is 541-460-1664. Signups are being taken for vendor space at the Sweetheart Sale on February 7th at the Community Center. It’s open to the first 20 to sign up. Call 553-3243 for more information. Tuesday 1/21 •A new Tribal Language Learning Program is being offered in Warm Springs. 30 people are being accepted, if you’re interested call 553-3290 to add your name to the list. The sessions will use modern technology to learn Native teachings together. The first session will begin tomorrow and be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm. The second session begins February 18th. •A “Reawakening” class teaching Advanced Corn Husk Bag making will begin tomorrow at 5:30pm at the community center. This is a 4-session class taught by Kelly Palmer, supplies are provided and its open to the first five people to sign up. Call Carol at the Community Center to sign up.
