Community asset created at Car Nicobar under MGNREGA work Car Nicobar, July 12 A community asset namely ‘beautification of beach at Malacca village at Car Nicobar’ which was constructed under MGNREGA was inaugurated by Smti Sakshi Mittal, (District Programme Coordinator). Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District in the presence of the Chairman Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, Shri Aberdeen Blair yesterday. For the implementation of this work, an expenditure of Rs.5,37,445/- was incurred and 2249 person days were generated, benefitting 45 households. During the inaugural function, the Dy. Commissioner, Nicobars requested the tribal leaders to try and maintain the community asset and ensure cleanliness in the area. She also re-iterated that plastics and other non-biodegradable wastes should not be littered in the beach. Shri Aberdeen Blair, Chairman Tribal Council, Car Nicobar also appreciated the work and requested for constructing a community toilet block and creation of similar community assets in all the villages of Car Nicobar. The community assets created include three eco-friendly huts, seven eco-friendly Benchs, one eco-friendly changing room and a Dust Bin. The inaugural function was also attended by the Ist Headmen from all villages of Car Nicobar, local heads of offices/ Depts. and general public. Sufficient lighting arrangement and drinking water arrangement have also been provided in the Malacca beach.
