Computer Fix It – Tip of the week. Should I leave my laptop, computer and monitor on when I am not using my computer? 20 years ago everything was built rugged, over engineered and the power consumption or heat of cpus (the brains) were not significant. At the same time the power switch seemed to fail prematurely so many people got in the habit of leaving on their computers 24/7. Today’s computers can easily rival the power draw of a Microwave oven. Power switches are cheap and easily replaced. I would recommend you turn off your computer, monitor or laptop whenever you are not sitting down in front of it. Boot times are much faster now so if you come back to reuse the computer the wait time for it to post will not be significant. If you are still worried about wearing out the power switch button then use the surge protectors on/off switch to power up and down your system.
