Con you might be able to help here, where is Clara Creek? Western Star (Roma) (Toowoomba, Qld. : 1948 - 1954), Friday 22 September 1950, page 4 National Library of Australia nla.gov.au/nla.news-article97538535 NEVBASSETT SHOOTS WELL AT MITCHELL A very successful two-day shoot was held at the Mitchell Gun Club grounds, at which the Southern Queensland Double Barrel Championship was decided the first day, and the Southern Queensland Mixed Bird Championship on the second day. For the double barrel event Neville Bassett, of Roma, was the winner after a shoot off with Keith Cameron, also of Roma^ with Bill Schooley, of Clara Creek, third. During this event and the shoot off Neville Bassett knocked 45 straight and then in following sweeps went on to 52 straight. A 50 straight is a rare event and is rewarded by the Australian Clay Pigeon Trap Shooting Association in Melbourne by a badge proclaiming the feat. The trophy for this event was a gold cup, presented by Mr. J. M. Bauman, of Brisbane. The eventual holder of the cup will be the shooter to win it three times in all. This cup has been given to the Gun Clubs of the South West and will be shot for at the following clubs until won outright: Roma, St. George, Charleville; Clara Creek and Mitchell. The Mixed Bird Championship on the second day was a very interesting event because, as the name implies, a series of different targets are presented to the shooter, and which are by no means easy. Keith Cameron ran out the winner after a shoot-off with D. Cameron, of St. George. Arthur Seis, of Macalister, filled the third place. EVEN SHOOTING A number of small five bird Weeps were run off during the two days and the place getters were spread evenly amongst the fields. A new- event- for- Mitchell, was the Deauville Doubles, which created much interest amongst the shooters as well as the spectators. The Country Womens Association were again In charge of the catering to everyones satisfaction. These picnic meals help a great deal towards an enjoyable day. The Club hopes to run a club shoot , within the next month or six weeks at which it hopes to see many members who have not done much shooting, competing amongst themselves in novice sweep stakes.
