Concerned parent post......the school that Morgan and Addison attend applied for and was chosen as school to receive free meals for breakfast and lunch. Every student, every meal is purchased by the county. In order to qualify the school had to reach a certain level of fee waiver students. I think the average was like 80% or higher. Free food, why am I concerned? When picking my kids up from school I asked the kids how their day went today. Addison proceeded to tell me all about how you could get food for free and you didnt even have to pay for it or punch in your number! I then had to try to explain that it was in fact not free. Someone paid for it and just because it is there she does not have to take it and she should never waste the food. She usually packs her lunch from home. I understand that for many families this really is a great thing. I am thankful that we have a system in place to provide for those children in need. I am concerned that we are breeding a generation that will expect to be given free food because everyone should have it given to them. It seems to me to be one more way to make society dependent on the Government. Want a challenge.....try to explain taxes and government revenue to a 6 yr old.
