Concerning the so-called Knockout Game, known otherwise as Catching a Body: A close family member is always holding and spoke with a readiness for violence right under his skin and occasionally dripping subtly from his tongue. He said, As far as Im concerned, its still the wild wild west. Barbaric and true. All the smooth words about tragic conditions in the world wouldnt console me if any of my loved ones were subjected to this. Imagine your mother struck down. Imagine your grandmother punched out. Violent cowardice deserves immediate, crushing response. Every time, so that a salient experience be not thought an exception. I payed attention in behavior modification; I had my ass whipped for disrespect, disobedience, and violence but not for protecting a weaker boy from a stronger one. I watched the mentor I mentioned above begin to pull a gun from his waist as a young man ran down the street, gun in hand, and call out, Yall aint see nothin. He said nothing but readiness, looking calm as Death, hands lightly on the scythe. Recently, a teen attempted to tase a man waiting for his daughter. The man shot the boy twice and that boy is now serving a year. That was just. A bullet ending his life would have been just and any case brought up in such circumstances should be quickly dismissed. When you attack someone--ESPECIALLY a stranger, you should expect that they will respond with lethal force. That seems basic sense to me. This is the sort of trend that I believe justifies immediate, severe consequences. End this nonsense with arresting people for carrying around weed and other victimless substances, etc. and put them in for deliberately harming other people. THAT makes sense. I know that seems uncharacteristically conservative of me, or at least vigilante, but it seems the most reasonable option. I believe the young men involved can be taught better and I recognize that many of them are from extraordinarily difficult situations; I empathize, and not through imagination. You cant be terrorizing random people. Society cannot and should not accept that behavior from anyone. Name a color. Of course I recognize the general dereliction of our society concerning poor inner city neighborhoods. I grew up living in such a place where fathers and father figures are often absent. Some of us did some REALLY stupid things, but we understood that the response to violence is likely to be violence. And, perhaps I presume too much, most of us had a basic respect for other peoples lives and would never bring deliberate violence against a stranger without any provocation.
