Confession: Sometimes I dont want to tell people that Im a Christian. There are so many examples of people claiming the title and acting nothing like Christ. In the sad case that you have encountered people or information that made you feel less than worthy because of who you are or what you believe (or for any reason), that were more concerned with piousness than with helping others, that were more concerned with or gave more energy to speaking out against gay marriage (or insert other hot button issue here) than they were about the hungry/orphans/enslaved/the needy/the disenfranchised and those that have no one to speak for them, that think God belongs to their particular political party...know that the Bible that I read does not say to do that. My Bible speaks of life, love, unearned grace, reconciliation, humility, and serving others over yourself. It says God loves everyone, and does not discriminate that love based on your brand of sin, because we all sin. We all need grace and forgiveness. It does not teach me to hate. It tells me to go to societys lowest, provide for them, and tell them they are just as worthy, just as loved, as everyone else. It focuses a lot more on instructions like this than any of that: Stop oppressing the helpless and stop making false accusations and spreading vicious rumors! Feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as day. The Lord will guide you continually...Your children will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as the people who rebuild their (broken) walls and cities. -Isaiah 58:9-12
