Confronting the Fear of Failure | 1 Samuel 14:2 1 Samuel 14:2 Saul was staying on the outskirts of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree in Migron. With him were about six hundred men, Saul had a problem. The new king’s small army was “quaking with fear” at the thought of facing the Philistines. Many soldiers had gone into hiding and others had deserted. Saul was down to about 600 men. Check out today’s passage. The king was sitting under a pomegranate tree. Based on the actions of Jonathan (we will consider his actions later this week), Saul had no plan. He was not strategizing. He was not seeking God. Saul was frozen by fear. For many, the fear of failure causes paralysis. We can’t go back; we can’t move forward. Like Saul, we sit under our pomegranate trees of doubt, dread and indecisiveness, but God doesn’t want us to live in a freeze frame. He calls us to “press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of [us]” (Philippians 3:12). It’s impossible to press on and sit under your pomegranate tree at the same time. It’s time to get up and move out. Father, I pray for those frozen in fear today. Give them your strength to press on. Help them see the plans and future you have for them. Remind them that you are always by their side. In Jesus’ name. Amen. God Bless!
