Confucius Institute inaugurated in Addis Ababa The commencement of Chinese and Amharic languages education and training institutes in Addis Ababa and Beijing cities is believed to strengthen the multilateral relationships between the two countries. Speaking on the inauguration of Confucius Institutes in Addis Ababa University, university president Dr. Admasu Tsegaye said the giving of Chinese and Amharic languages in the universities helps to tighten brotherly ties between the two countries. Dr. Admasu pointed out that Addis Ababa University launched delivering Chinese language with first degree program since 2012 and has admitted 52 students with the same program in the current year. He further briefed that due to the increasing need of mastering Amharic language in China, since several Chinese exist in Ethiopia, Beijing University opened an institute for the Chinese to learn the language. Chinese ambassador in Ethiopia, Mister Xie Xiaoyan, said on his part the commencement of language teaching institutes enhances the interaction between the nations of the two countries linking them as a bridge. In the ceremony, Dr. Samuel Kifle, General Director of Higher of Education Institutes Managerial Affairs with Ministry of Education, said in addition to wide spreading the Chinese language in the country, Ethiopia wants to learn from the striking economic growth of China. He further urged other State Universities of the country to follow the path of Addis Ababa University and enhance the mutual interests of the two countries. Up on the inaugural ceremony, first and second year students of the institute presented various programs that reflected the language and culture of China.
