Confusion Mars Solwezi Mayoral Elections Opposition MMD Mulonga Ward councillor Ezekiel Mulonga has won the mayoral elections for Solwezi after polling 15 votes beating Kapijimpanga Ward councillor Paul Katuka of the MMD who got 12 votes. However, confused has marred the post election activities with Katuka threatening to petition the outcome alongside his losing deputy mayor colleague. Mujimanzovu Ward councillor Brian Kajoba won the position of deputy mayor after managing 13 votes beating his closest rival Mumena ward councillor Daison Kosamu both of the MMD who polled 10 votes PF’s Dickson Chitambala Kimasala Ward contested the position of deputy mayor but polled a paltry two votes even when his party has three councillors out of the 26. But it was Katuka and Kosamu who added drama to the election after they lost and petitioned the election on the basis that the returning officer Ronald Daka who is also the Town Clerk misled the house that the alderman was supposed to vote. The alderman, a Mr Kakoma but also populary known as Kyula Wauma (a dry frog), is an advisor to the council for his experience after serving considerable years as a councillor but no longer is. Katuka and Kosamu have argued that the alderman has no voting rights and futher allege he incited and intimidated a councillor who in return did not vote. The duo has given the returning officer up to April 8, 2014 to explain where it is written that an alderman is supposed to vote. zambiareports/2014/04/05/confusion-mars-solwezi-mayoral-elections/
