Congratulation to the u14 for reaching the cup semi final after beating Sundays Well in a thrilling encounter 42-27. Despite what the score line might suggest it was a very close encounter and Bantry bay was made to sweat to the final whistle. The game could not have started brighter for the bay boys hitting their strides early on and putting in place an expensive rugby from the off. Bantry took the early lead with Thomas Flynn crossing the white dash capping off a well drilling backs move. It seemed the west cork side was setting the pace and was cruising but two individual brilliant tries from Sundays Well number height exposed the visitors porous defence. The game turned into an heavy weight boxing fight with the two teams trading blows with neither of them willing to let the game sleep. Bantry bay rugby style, fast and wide team display was contrasting with the home side individual brilliance.Two more tries from each team before half time meant the city team took a one point lead at the break 22-21. The second half was a carbon copy of the first with both teams playing to their strength to force the decision. Bantry bay started full throttle regaining the lead with paidi McCarthy and Luke Franklin both crashing over the line. Sundays Well was right back in contraction with another sucker punch hitting Bantry on the counter and closing the gap to 6 points. The last ten minutes were very tensed. With the home side ability to score from anywhere at anytime Bantry bay was made to work to the very end to secure their passage to the semi. Paidi McCarthy putting the game to rest with his third try with only few minutes to go. Congratulation also to jack Harrington for his try this season and a very special mention to Neil OSullivan for flawless kicking display nailing six conversation out of six.
