Congratulations Alumnus Dr. Jeff Samide!! The 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Scholar Award has been named by the College of Education-Educational Technology (COE-ET). Dr. Jeff Samide, Associate Professor of Counselor Education at California University of Pennsylvania and an alumnus of the IUP Department of Counseling, will formally receive the Award on Wednesday, November 6. This marks the first time that a graduate of the Department of Counseling is the recipient. Dr. Samide earned his M.Ed. in Counseling with a certification in Elementary School Counseling in 1977 and an Ed.D in Counseling in 1990. He holds credentials as a National Certified Counselor, a Master Addictions Counselor, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. In addition, he is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Dr. Samide serves as a co-editor of the career development series, Research in Career Development. In 2011, he published his first co-edited book, Career Development in Higher Education. His second co-edited textbook, Career Development across the Lifespan: Communities, Schools and Higher Education, is scheduled for publication this Fall. Dr. Samide has also published on a variety of other topics, including spirituality and existential counseling; the fusion of art, science and technology into counselor education; clinical supervision; and folklore. In addition to teaching, Dr. Samide maintains a clinical consultation practice on children, youth, and family issues in Westmoreland County. During his visit to IUP, he will meet with Counseling faculty and students prior to the reception and award ceremony, which will be held in Stouffer Auditorium.
