Congratulations Cadet Stillson for attending Cultural Understanding and Language Program (CULP) in Romania. This was an incredible experience. Great work! Heres some thoughts from her experience: I was sent to Romania and was stationed in Cluj-Napoca. There we worked with the 317th Reconnaissance Battalion helping to improve the English of some of the soldiers, as well as some humanitarian work. We helped build homes for orphan children in and around the city. We taught from Monday-Thursday either in the morning or afternoon, and the rest of the time we immersed ourselves in the culture of the city and the entire country. We visited museums, a military high school, a university, churches, castles, the head quarters of the battalion we were with, went into the Carpathians, meet the former Prime Minister of Romanian and current Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Bloc, and so much more. We spent the weekends traveling around Romania, seeing as much of the country as we could. We had the privilege of being able to live fire some of the rifles used by the Romanian Land Forces, ride around in an APC, get some survival training, and participate in some mountain training. I loved every second of this experience and wouldnt trade it for the world. It made me realize that even though we are from different parts of the world, we are very similar.
