Congratulations goes to the students of Asbury University in Wilmont, Kentucky, who win the 2014 award for Most Unusual Gig Venue. The dance hall was a barn, with the fact that it was unheated comprising the unusual part. The evening started at out a balmy (which means crazy, btw) 36 degrees, then went down to 34, and bottomed out by the end of the dance to a pleasant 31. My feet and left pinky went numb, and Lizas pick snapped in two. On we played, however, and on they DANCED! Their spirits were indomitable; so enthusiastic and proficient were they, that no one would ever ever have known that they had never done this before! Thanks to Heather for pulling it together, Jessica for doing sound, the unfreezable Frank Jenkins for calling, George Oberst for pushing the whole thing uphill and over the crest so that we could all speed down the other side at 90 mph, and the students of Asbury University who topped out at over 100 by the evenings end. May you NEVER stop dancing! *Liza & A.J. were booked for this dance, but as they are both members of Illegal Contraband, this posting appears on both pages.
