Congratulations to Shelby, Henry Novak, and Blake Fabian for all - TopicsExpress

Congratulations to Shelby, Henry Novak, and Blake Fabian for all their hard work this Spring Track season at McGuinness. All three boys ran their hearts out yesterday at the Putnam City 5A Regional. I do not think any of them will be running at State next week. Thats OK. Shelby broke the 11:00 minute mark for the 3200 meter run twice this season, with a personal best of 10:54. Some kids never break 12, let alone 11. Besides that, Shelby was handicapped by his parents gene pool. No one ever confused me with Jim Ryan or Steve Prefontaine. These boys and their Irish teammates are great role models for their generation. I am very proud of them. I did not want to leave out Gavin Gee, who ran well all season in the 1600 and 3200. Unfortunately the injury bug struck Gavin this past week and he was unable to compete at Regionals. He has a senior year ahead of him, so Gavin has time to heal and come back better than ever next year. Everyone will be back next year except for Shelby, who is off to Oklahoma State in the Fall. Congratulations to the IRISH girls track team. They won the Meet at Putnam City yesterday. Led by the blazing, speedy bullet Kate Vesper - winner of the 1600 meter run, and the two lovely Edmonds girls, Adele and Charlotte, who finished 1st (Charlotte) and 3d (Adele) in the 3200, the Irish girls are taking a full team to the State Meet. Good for them. The Vespers and the Edmonds are role models for parents and supporting their children in every thing they do. That is so important to have parents that support their children, attend their athletic events, and give positive encouragement along the way. I was fortunate to witness the Vespers and the Edmonds during Cross Country season and Track season. Mom and Dad in both families are great role models, enthusiastic, positive, supportive and always there for their kids. That parental support and reinforcement goes a long, long way. Just look at Kevin Durant and the praise he gave his mother last week when he was awarded the MVP. No one has to do without when you have parents that put their childrens needs ahead of their own. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY - God Bless you.
