Congratulations to our TEACHERS OF THE YEAR announced at this morning’s graduation: Marlena Davis in Providence and Ali Smith in Coventry. Marlena Davis is described by her co-workers as an incredibly patient, kind and compassionate individual and a dedicated and professional employee. Marlena’s willingness to go above and beyond is exemplified in her volunteering at Special Olympics and her sharing of her love of photography with her students. Ali Smith has been a dedicated, reliable and effective teacher at the Groden Center, first in Providence, and in recent years in Coventry. She is always one of the first to step in to help her co-workers, always with the student’s best interest in mind. This year’s staff awards at Groden North and South, are given in memory of two dedicated, long-term employees who passed away earlier this year: Denise Bowman who served in a multitude of roles during her 25 years with the Groden Network, and was truly considered an ideal staff member; and Richard Palazzo, a Special Education Teacher at the Groden Center for over 20 years, who will be best remembered as a kind and caring individual who was loved by the students he taught and their families, as well as by his colleagues.
