Congratulations to our top taggers for 2012-2013! Volunteer anglers who tagged 10 or more fish from 7/1/12-6/30/13 were invited to attend the annual Louisiana Cooperative Marine Fish Tagging Program Awards Banquet held on November 7th. Joseph Ingram, who was unable to attend the event, tagged the most fish overall with 936 total. Awards were also given in four species categories: Redfish, speckled trout, red snapper, and yellowfin tuna. First place in the redfish category was Ross Barkhurst who tagged 924 fish, second place was Jeff Bavar with 513 tagged, and third place was Bob Bateman who tagged 307 redfish. In the speckled trout category, first place was Dr. Victor E. Tedesco who tagged 785 fish, second place was Joseph Ingram with 700 tagged, and third place was Steve Fourrier who tagged 111 speckled trout. The winner of the red snapper category was Andre Thomas who tagged 70 during the fiscal year. And in the yellowfin tuna category Woody Woods won with 17 tagged over the fiscal year. Volunteer fish taggers who tagged 100 or more fish were honored as members of the tagging program’s “Century Club”. There were 14 taggers who received this distinction: Joseph Ingram, Ross Barkhurst , Dr. Victor E. Tedesco, Jeff Bavar, Bob Bateman, Clark Cormier, Andre Thomas, Pat Olivier, Kyle (Monty) Leger, Diane and Norman Norton, Steve Fourrier, Jerrod Jw Meche, and Kenneth LeCompte. Volunteer fish taggers are essential to the continued success of the tagging program. This wealth of information cannot be gathered without the help of volunteer anglers acting as “citizen scientists” by providing data that can be difficult, often impossible, and expensive to obtain by other means. Thank you to our dedicated fish taggers!
