Congress of the People (COP) Statement on Dana Seetahal SC murder May 4 2014 PORT OF SPAIN – Congress of the People (COP), Political Leader, Hon. Prakash Ramadhar, this morning expressed grave shock and horror at the brutal slaying of Dana Seetahal, Senior Counsel, in the early hours of this morning. Mr. Ramadhar, on his own behalf and from the COP, extends heartfelt condolences to Ms. Seetahal’s family, friends and her colleagues in the legal profession and to the nation on the immense loss brought about by her passing. “This nation has lost a most committed and patriotic daughter and professional who has made a sterling contribution as an Attorney at Law, Lecturer and Author in Law, an Independent Senator, Commentator on all issues – political, social – affecting the nation.”, Ramadhar said. “Ms. Seetahal, by her life and work has been an inspiration to many who entered her chosen profession. Many young lawyers benefitted from her friendly, yet professional, guidance as she shared her knowledge and experience generously in encouraging the highest standards in the profession.” Ramadhar added. “As a person, Dana was humble and enjoyed life to the maximum. She was an ardent marathon runner and was a social livewire in her Chambers and in the Law Association. She will always be remembered for her frankness and her ability to engage in close discussion with persons of any level of social standing. Most importantly, she was fearless in presenting her views on national issues and in the conduct of her work in the Courts.” he pointed out. Ramadhar concluded, “No effort must be spared in bringing those responsible for this most heinous crime against such a prominent citizen. Everyone who can provide any assistance to the police to bring the perpetrators to justice in the shortest possible time must do so. No such brazen murderous act, carried out with impunity, must be left unsolved.” ###
