President Cadre Terror Lekota joined South African Student Association (SASO) and became its organiser, 1973. In September 1974 Lekota was arrested with eight other SASO members for organising celebrations around the independence of Mozambique. He was charged under the Terrorism Act, found guilty and sentenced to six years on Robben Island. Cadre Lekota was released at the end on 1982, and eight months later attended the launch of the United Democratic Front (UDF). At the launch he was elected its national secretary. On 8 October, 2008, Cadre Lekota announced that he would serve divorce papers to the ANC and with the aim of creating of a new political party and with many South Africans on the 16 of December 2008, the President and others brought life to the Congress of the People. He is the inspiration, the backbone and the steadfast leader with the promise for the Alternative governance and for the defence of the Constitution of South Africa. We, the youth of South Africa are proud of being associated with a cadre like him. In his words to his daughter while in prison he said; “Above all then, my dear, I am in prison for the sake of peace for our country and the world. I am in prison so that our generation may leave to yours and later generations a country and a world that has the greatest potential for progress." These are the words we find courage in, to continue in the same way and fight for our future and that of the next generation so they can a better life. We wish him many more years to come and hope that he will continue to serve and inspire South Africa and the world. Issued by: Bongani Mahlangu COPE YM Spokesperson 082 780 3523
