Conjecture: Alinksy may be smart, but Machiavelli is smarter. Our current crop of tyrants either never read Plato or Machiavelli, or they never took them seriously. I remember being freaked out by a great portion of the few parts of the Republic I thought I understood, and that those parts were a small part of the whole thing. But Platos description of the devolution of the Ideal polis into tyranny struck me as frighteningly shrewd. And Machiavelli is not to be ignored in any case. At least his Prince takes prudent measures to assure that SOME of the people have confidence in him. You dont have to be as amorally skeptical as he appears to be to understand that a great part of his thinking is about political prudence. It appears that part of the strategy of the BHO team was to play the tides of the media and the moral fatigue of the electorate. I think they may have underestimated the erosive effect of media balderdash on public confidence. And abroad merciless savages commit depredations which seem to be fugitives from a penny-dreadful. And they give every appearance of expecting us to trust them to handle the situation. IMHO its blowing up in their faces, but it is still our blood that will be spilt.
