Consequences - J3M - Monday 10/20/2014 Our Youth Group is revisiting the stories from the Old Testament. Amazingly, we have been discussing Abraham & Sarah at great lengths. There is a lot to learn from this story. First, its history in the making. Second, it proves Gods undeniable love for His people; third, it is a story of redemption and grace, and so on and so forth, and not necessarily in that order. But to truly be immersed in the Word to glean every kernel of the Scriptures in small portions is exciting. In the story of Sarahs actions for Gods promises, we see that Sarah didnt fully understand Gods promise and therefore took matters into her own hands. She was in a way, helping God, help His children, to make His promises true. Hind sight is always 20/20. When we look at this event from behind the scenes if you will, we see that Sarah should have believed God and trusted Him enough to make His promises a reality in the lives of Abraham and Sarah. But she didnt. At the time a decision had to be made, we see Sarah made some choices that hurt her, her handmaid, he husband, her stepson, her son, her household, and the two nations which stemmed from the two sons of Abraham. It affected all of these people then, and it still affects the nations of Abrahams children today. Often, when we need to make decisions, if we fail to wait on the Lord for His direction, and then wait on Him for Him timing, trusting Him to bring us through whatever we are facing, those consequences will not only affect our future, it affects our family, our friends, our relatives, our neighbors, and so on. The stories in the Bible are not meant to be time killers. They are lessons to be learnt. God in His infinite wisdom, ascribed these events to Moses to help us walk closer to God by understanding His love for us and His grace towards us. In Jeremiah 29:11, the Scripture reads, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. This morning, as we begin your weekly duties of going to school, work, play, etc., let us be mindful of the decisions we take. Whether we are being watched by our parents/elders/teachers, let us be mindful that God is watching us and the decisions we make not only affects us, but those around in every sense of the word. Let us learn to make wise choices, Godly choices, to honor Him who has called us into His Kingdom by paying a great price for our redemption. God has a unique and special plan for each of our future, let us not be hasty in our decisions. Unlike Sarah, let us learn to trust Him and wait upon Him for our day in the sun. Have a good and Godly day and go serve your King!
