Consider purposeful variability, and interference when training - TopicsExpress

Consider purposeful variability, and interference when training baseball hitters. Every time you have an at bat it can be broken down like this: Your TASK is to hit the baseball. Your BODY must coordinate movement. You must interpret the ENVIRONMENTAL data (pitch, ball park, game situation). Most hitting instruction is based on increased performance in that practice session. We set a very controlled environment, generally in the same cage or on the same field, and try to repeat a coordinate action that technically is never completely repeatable. Instead, include a level of variability. Challenge the hitter with alternate environmental data, so as to train the system to become more stable in an unstable situation. Change the pitches, velocity, delivery. Change the swing sequencing, batting stance, set up, etc. Change the environment, keep the task the same, teach the body to coordinate itself under a multitude of different inputs. While this will decrease the performance of the hitter in the session at hand, it will improve learning, and performance on the field. #changethegame, #cspfamily, #trainwithapurpose
