Construction accident in Chattanooga as wood framed commercial structures blow down, I guess I better keep my mouth shut about wood stick framed structures under construction. They are no more than uncontrolled bonfire structures just waiting for a match to ignite. Wind loading is pitiful on flat walls of ignorant square and rectangle shapes. We should be designing for 200 to 300 mph wind loads that nature creates during rotation of tornadoes. Even new IBC codes are limited. Build round curved walls to lower wind load possibilities . Think Monolithic Domes, Completed wood framed structures are still bon fires waiting for a spark to ignite. FEMA declares near absolute F5 protection is available only in Monolithic domes . They offer free grants $340,000 for school systems and community shelters of such. I am a independent certified ICC Special Inspector of steel framed seismic structures. Local Cities and counties do not enforce their own required IBC codes, Most inspection offices do not even own a copy of recent IBC chapter 17 requirements. . I will remove this soon as I have a target on my back sadly..
