Construction of the Aransas Pass Light Station began in 1854 and the tower was lighted in 1857. The tower lit the way for the next 99 years before being abandoned by the U. S. Coast Guard. The tower was re-lit in 1989 by a new private owner, and now once again is the only light house marking the our section of the coastline. Visits to the lighthouse are private and by invitation. These pictures were taken last year when the Port Aransas Historical and Preservation Association visited it.
