Contactless payments introduced on Merseyrail Buses offer contactless payment Train passengers in Merseyside can now choose to pay fares with a contactless card, Merseyrail has announced. The train operator, whose services span Southport to Ellesmere Port and Wirral to Kirkby, said it is the first service outside London to use the system. Merseyrail says most of its stations should have readers by the end of the month which can be swiped by credit, debit or charge card. The scheme covers payments of £20 or less which are 98% of its transactions. Merseyrail runs nearly 800 trains a day and carries more than over 100,000 passengers on a week day.
