Containment is the status of a wildfire suppression action - TopicsExpress

Containment is the status of a wildfire suppression action signifying that a control line has been completed around the fire, and any associated spot fires, which can reasonably be expected to stop the fire’s spread. Due to the steep terrain and the extremely dense vegetation, fire managers on the Bald Sisters Fire cannot safely place firefighters directly on the “hot” fireline. The line has been built away from the fire in preparation for burn out operations, if necessary, to remove fuels ahead of the fire. These lines are being established all around the fire. The objective is to keep the fire as small as possible, as safely as possible. At this moment, there is no containment on this fire, but 40% of the work has been completed on the indirect line and contingencies.
