Continuing on with the nutrition for children theme, I wanted to - TopicsExpress

Continuing on with the nutrition for children theme, I wanted to talk about the importance of breakfast for kids (and everyone really). Breakfast is an important start to the day and having breakfast benefits brain performance at school. Research has found that children who skip breakfast make unhealthier food choices and are more likely to be overweight. It is a good idea to get a balance of nutrients at breakfast time, however most breakfast foods (cereal, toast) tend to be heavily weighted towards carbohydrates which can leave you with low blood sugar (and low energy) not long after you eat them. I recommend having a protein source at breakfast - something like eggs or baked beans or even adding some yoghurt and nuts to cereals to beef up the protein. Having a good protein source at breakfast increases your chance of meeting your protein requirements for the day and also makes you more satisfied and less likely to crave junk food.
