Continuing our series from Union Station volunteer and acclaimed KC photographer, Roy Inman Photographs. Today we feature an amazing before and after transformation with The home of the dance From Roy: One of the brilliant moves that helped put the station onto the positive side of the financial ledger was the decision to lease out or otherwise receive rents from the thousands of square feet of interior space in buildings surrounding the main complex. The most beautifully reconfigured is the Todd Bolender Center, home to the Kansas City Ballet. The massive brick structure once housed a very dirty, extremely noisy and almost unbearably hot electricity generating plant. It provided power not only for Union Station but for a number of downtown buildings as well. Light years and many warp drives separate the look and feel of the powerhouse before the restoration and the airy, bright, lyrical environment of the ballet studios today.
