Contract Opportunity: Festival Curator Subtle Technologies is looking for a motivated individual to act as Festival Curator for the 18th edition of the Subtle Technologies Festival scheduled for May 2015. The ideal candidate for this job is passionate about our mandate – bringing artists, scientists and the public together. Experience in programming arts events and knowledge of the performing arts scene in Toronto and nationally is a must. Experience with contemporary music/sound events and media arts is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal, organizational and budgeting skills are key qualities. The candidate is also self motivated and enthusiastic with exceptional written and graphic communication skills. The Festival Curator is responsible for implementing events that are already planned (Collide event with Continuum Contemporary Music) as well as developing a speakers’ series and other potential programming (such as workshops) within the limits of the budget, keeping to the Festival’s mission and objectives. The Festival Curator will work with the outgoing Founding Director of Programs whenever appropriate to ensure a smooth artistic transition and continuation. In addition, the Curator will work closely with the General manager and Festival assistant who are responsible for budgeting, planning, marketing, administration and logistical coordination. Duties • Research and organize events/talks/workshops and other programming, including partnerships, that fit within this year’s Festival theme of Sound, Art and Science; • Generate and coordinate overall Festival schedule; • Create graphic identity and generate copy for Festival promotional material, including web site and social media; • Have meetings with outgoing ST Director of Programs to understand history and context of the organization; • Assist with grant applications as required; • Assist with fundraising duties as required; • Be present for all Festival programs; • Attend meetings as required, including Board meetings; • Press relations duties; • Generate a final report. Terms: The contract starts November 17 until June 15, 2015 (7 months). The fee is $5,000 (plus HST if applicable) Hours: The Festival Curator is expected to work ±20 hours/month from November 2014 to June 2015 on average, with hours varying from month to month and increasing as the Festival approaches.
