Contrary to popular belief, meat is NOT essential to the human diet. Even if you are not a vegetarian, an individual can substitute meat for available alternatives on days of their choice. A plate of legumes provide protein that is equal or superior to meat. Legumes when combined with grains are equal or superior to meat in terms of protein and minerals. Legumes are a good source of carbohydrates and fiber which are missing in meat. In addition, they do not contain any cholesterol. Legumes also provide more iron than meat. The only thing you will not find in them is vitamin B12.
