Contrary to what some people might imagine, street dance, hip hop and all its styles demand an understanding of mechanics of the movement and involves a big deal of technique. I evolved from the classical disciplines into hip hop; this gives me a good insight on the how tos. I never expect my students to just copy what I do. Instead, I teach them how to do it so they can understand and experiment. Knowing they are in control of the technique they can feel free and develop their own unique style.
