Convective initiation is well underway across upstate New York and Pennsylvania as numerous clusters of thunderstorms are beginning to explode and travel North Northeast. Currently in the upper Hudson Valley skies are mostly clear, hot and extremely muggy with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees throughout the area. While some large towers with overshooting tops can be seen in the distance things still remain calm and oppressive here in Saratoga Springs. I will be waiting and watching the radar watching the complex of storms come North into the very volatile untapped environment. Storms in southern NY have already reportedly dropped severe hail, and produced damaging winds. I expect these storms to gain in intensity and coverage over the next few hours.
