Hope to see you there! Hi Everyone, Sorry for a mass email but I wanted to ask for your help getting the word out about a memorial workout we are doing at CrossFit Coronado this Saturday for Lieutenant Commander Jones and Warrant Officer Gibson (the two pilots that were lost in the helicopter crash in the Red Sea on 22 Sep 2013). These two men both left behind families with children, one of whom never got to meet his 6 month old son. There was a very touching article that came out where LCDR Jones wife Theresa recounts the devastation of being told that her husband would not be coming home. As I read the letter, I couldnt hold back tears. I am not a military spouse but I am a wife and mother and it broke my heart. Clint and I decided to hold a memorial workout in honor of these men and collect donations that we will be giving directly to these two families. The event is this Saturday at our gym in Coronado. You are included in this email because I either know you from CrossFit or the awesome circle of friends we have made in Coronado because of the gym. I know you are associated with the military (some of you are even helo pilots or crewmen). I have told you about the event were doing and you sounded intrigued. Or in going through my list of Facebook friends I thought you might be able to post this to your page and someone may read it and want to come to the event. At any rate, if you cannot donate to the event dont worry. What I would like more than anything is for you to pass along the information about the workout to people you work with, see or just share it on Facebook. I would love nothing more that to have a full gym on Saturday and to go beyond our expectations to honor these men. I have been in touch with Theresa Jones (LCDR Jones wife) and she is welcoming the support. She is planning to be there on Saturday and said My husband loved to work out/lift weights and I know he would be totally honored to be celebrated in this way. I do not have a contact for Mrs. Gibson although Im sure she will welcome the support as well. So here are the details, gym opens at 8am on Saturday, the workout heats begin at 09:00 and will go every 15 minutes until everyone is done. The workout is 12 minutes long and consists of run bike or row (you pick one) and then cycles through man makers (kind of like burpees but with dumbbells and way more fun), box jumps and kettle bell swings. We can modify these movements for anyone (even your Grandma could come do this)! We are asking for a $20 donation. If you cannot donate $20 but want to come show support and do the workout that is fine too. If youd like to donate more than $20 let me know and Im happy to set that up. Our goal is to get the community of Coronado and beyond together to show support for the families dealing with such a tragic event. We have people participating remotely in Annapolis, one of our members is organizing an event on his ship for them to do in support of the cause while on deployment, and a gym in Carlsbad is planning to do this WOD on Saturday as well. Thank you for taking the time to read this email. I know I havent talked to some of you in a long time. I hope you are all doing well and healthy. Please let me know if you have any questions.
