Convicted for stabbing woman Simon Liseli Thursday, July 3, 2014 - 10:45 News Nombolo Siyeni Mutoiwa, 28, of Mwanzi village at Singalamwe area north-west of Zambezi Region was convicted by the Katima Mulilo District Court for assaulting Catherine Puteho Batende by stabbing her with unknown object causing serious injuries, in October 2012. According to Mutoiwa he was visiting Mawizu village when Julia Puteho, the daughter of Batende insulted him by calling him a” bastard” (of mixed blood). He then slapped Puteho, whereupon Batenda grabbed his T-shirt and she and her daughter started beating him over the head with a shoe and fists. Mutoiwa then stabbed Batende. A case was opened at Kongola police station. Mutoiwa pleaded guilty on 23 June 2014 and was sentenced on the first count of assault to a fine of N$2 000 or six months behind bars and on the second count to a fine of N$1 000 or six months imprisonment. In another case, Betty Buchane Likando, 36, was convicted of forgery and uttery by the Katima Mulilo Lower Court last week. On 27 January 2014 at Katima Mulilo Police Station field training officer’s office she handed in an application form with a Grade 12 certificate in order for to acquire a vacant post that was advertised. She was caught by the receiving police officer after noticing that her Grade 12 copy used was not from the original certificate. Likando told the court she wrote her final Grade 12 examination in2005 but she failed it. She then got a forged certificate when she was residing in Grootfontein from some Zimbabwean nationals for N$250. She pleaded guilty and was convicted of two counts of forgery and uttery and was sentenced on each count to six months imprisonment or a fine of N$1 000. Also at the Katima Mulilo District Court on 13 June 2014 Sinvula Bernard Mukaya, 31, was given an option of paying a fine of N$1 000 or to three months imprisonment for being found guilty of malicious damage to property on 11 June 2014. Mukaya broke two windows worth N$400 at the house of Namasiku Nathi in Greenwell Matongo informal settlement, Katima Mulilo, when she refused to open the door for him.
