#Corchiano (#Viterbo): Between #Nature and Good Practices, and one of the most virtuous municipalities of Italy Elected in 2010 as a 5-star City by Association of #Virtuous #Municipalities of Italy (Associazione Comuni Virtuosi dItalia) is the prime example of how we can live in the XXI century respecting our hosts nature and #environment. All those good intentions, sometimes imposed by the institutions, in these towns find their the full realization. In Corchiano certainly stands at the first place the door to door waste sorting (the real one) that has largely exceeded 85%, and already 20% of the approximately 1500 families purchased a home #composter, in addition to the one available to the whole community, where every citizen can bring food scraps that within a few months will become a great fertilizer useful for gardens. The #public #drinkwater fountain has allowed a saving (in use and transport) of more than 200.000 half-liter plastic water bottles, not to mention the lesser environmental impact achieved by the installation of public detergent or food dispensers. The traffic police, when it is not raining use #bikes as a way of moving through the town, the public offices are powered by #photovoltaic systems, and school buses are powered by biodiesel derived from the oil you use to fry in the kitchen. And then there are the #Bottega delle buone Pratiche (Shop of good practice), where you will find everything you need for a more #sustainable #lifestyle, seconds hand #markets and the nature #shopping centre, which coordinates the passage of production to commerce, in particular that of the local crafts and agri-food production. Of particular interest are the Natural Monumenti present in and around the city and which were re-evaluated in recent years. Among these are we find the #Natural #Monument of Piana SantAngelo, which became a protected area and WWF oasis, and the #Forre #Corchiano (Canyon of Corchiano), an area located along the Rio Fratta, a tributary of #Tevere, rich in natural beauty and with important testimonies of the past such as prehistoric and protohistoric caverns, and tomb of the #Faliscan Ways, a #Roman bridge, a stretch of the Roman, hydraulic works ... etc. And it are these testimonies that make of Corchiano, a #village of considerable interest to live and visit.
