Corel Corporation was an innovative Canadian company and their products were the best of the best as far as computer based drawing, illustration and photography was in question. Corel was what Adobe is today back than. Even after Adobe became more popular, Corel to me had better quality and friendlier interface to work with. For instance, the sharpening was 10 times better than Adobe Photoshops!.. Corel did quite a few stupid things after they started to lose market share. They bought WordPerfect company which was the first and the best business productivity / word-processing etc. application in its day (1990s). The funny thing is, the introduction CD of the WordPerfect at some point contained Christian religious music and images in it! Desparate times, desparate CEO and desparate measures! I still cannot believe that CD and wonder what they hoped to achieve by going Kumbaya! Corel still exists! I havent used it for the longest time and I dont know how much behind the technology (Adobe being the leader) they are but they cannot be that bad! Especially with their pricing, they are worth the shot! Corel Paintshop Pro X7 Ultimite is regularly priced at $79.99 but quite often they send out e-mails to their subscribers offering huge discounts such as $49.99 and they also include whole bunch of other software bundled with it. I am also writing this as a response to Erhan Berbers comment in my previous post! I dont know what other capabilities PortraitPro has at $40.00 but Corel at its regular price may be a huge value when compared! If you are on the market for a photo editing application, I suggest you download and try Corel products first! By the way, Adobe Photoshop is regularly priced at $120 per year! I dont like the subscription idea but it is becoming more and more attractive and affordable compared to 500 to 800 Dollars a shot previously (Before the cloud scheme)! I am downloading the Corel PaintShop Pro X7 trial. I will let you know what I think about it in a week or so! Cheers!
