Corrimal Cougars Announce 2015 Head Coach Despite finishing the 2014 Illawarra Coal League season winless in the 1st grade competition, the Corrimal club have made significant strides in recent months in planning a brighter future. With Corrimal Leagues club returning to a position to provide support to the Cougars since becoming part of the successful Wests Illawarra group, the prospect of the Cougars returning to finals football in the near future may be a possibility. Continuing the momentum comes confirmation that the club has appointed Brendan Reeves to the role of Head Coach for 2015. Reeves, a former Illawarra Steelers and Manly Sea Eagles player, brings coaching experience that the club has been searching for as they strive for improvement both on and off-field. Corrimal President Dave Adams has heralded the appointment of Reeves as one both significant for its efforts to improve on-field and also as the biggest appointment the club has made for many years. “Brendan has certainly ticked some big boxes for the Corrimal Cougars in terms of the qualities we were looking for in a coach. His appointment has already stirred a lot of renewed interest in and around the club, so much so that we felt the need to bring our playing group together this week and begin some light preparations for the 2015 season.” Reeves has a healthy coaching resume, which includes a stint as coach at Wests Illawarra, premiership success in Group 6 with the Oakdale Workers club, and recent representative coaching experience with the Group 6 CRL representative team and the NSW CHS under 15 team. Reeves is relishing the opportunity of coaching again in the Illawarra Coal League, saying “I can’t wait to get cracking on the job ahead with Corrimal for 2015 and beyond. There is a real sense that the club are moving ahead and will become a force again in the Illawarra Coal Rugby League. I am very confident I can bring a lot to the table that will ensure more on-field success than recent years.” Chairman of the Illawarra Division Rugby League Board of Management, Ian Neill, endorsed the appointment of Reeves. “Brendan has shown he is a quality coach with his successes and representative appointments in recent years. The Cougars have made a real statement about their desire to be a serious contender in the Illawarra Coal League with this appointment”, stated Neil.
