Cortisol: And Why it’s Sabotaging your Weightloss Goals So what is cortisol? Cortisol is a hormone secreted by your adrenal glands. The main function of cortisol is to regulate blood pressure and the body’s use of nutrients. Stress can lead to increased levels of cortisol. Stress to the body can come in many forms, over-working, lack of sleep...any of these sound familiar to your daily grind? Increased levels of cortisol lead to impaired thyroid function, imbalances in blood sugar and a weakened immune system. High cortisol levels inhibit the body from adequately burning fat. This all can make weightloss or even maintaining weightloss difficult to nearly impossible. Cutting caffeine, exercising regularly, and aiming for eight hours of sleep a night can help decrease cortisol levels. I know finding time for yourself can be difficult but squeezing in 5-10 minutes of relaxation or meditation daily can also reduce cortisol levels. B-Vitamins and minerals like Magnesium, Chromium, and Zinc have also proven to reduce stress and help rebalance your metabolism. Keep pushing Fitfam! XoXo Absolute Diva #BlueKnowsBest #AbsoluteDiva
