Could Daniel Emm Kaye, Helen Dale or any other lawyers in this forum please lend a fellow libertarian out with some very rudimentary advice? Nicholas Zounis is doing an experiment in homesteading on some crown land near Smythesdale in Victoria. Hes built a small cottage there and has been living in it full time for the past few months. The land is designated as state forest according to Google maps. Hes been served with a notice from the Department of Environment and Primary Industries to provide them with a license (permit, lease or other authority) for his dwelling there. Is it possible to obtain such a permit? Does anyone know what type of lawyer specializes in this, or better yet, where we could contact one? Also, what would be the consequences for failure to obtain a license? One of the guys from the DEPI said theyd demolish the cottage, but another said they wont do anything like that.
