Couldnt even finish the oscars in one sitting, and its not because of the 3 hour duration. I saw the in memoriam portion start up and realized Philip Seymour Hoffman was going to be in there, and I thought a moment longer and realized I hadnt properly paid my respects by binge-watching a few of his classic performances. Its not easy to think about the future of cinema, and acting specifically, without him. Hoffman was a reassuring force on the silver screen. At least if you saw his name in the opening credits youd know you wouldnt be bored. The movie could be terrible but youre getting your moneys worth because you have a pro like him embodying one of the characters. I cant recall one PSH performance that I didnt enjoy. Looking back, I remember viewing each new Hoffman film to hit theaters as an opportunity to learn from one of the greats. The impact he alone has had on the way I watch and enjoy movies stuns me to think about now. He will be sorely missed. Hopefully, we can all learn from his death. Shit, hopefully I can.
