Countdown to Justice for Dylan and All Suicide Baiting Victims: Week 5, July 21-25, 2014 This is the fifth week before our trial begins. It is still scheduled to begin August 25, 2014, in San Franciscos Civic Center Courthouse in what will be the 54th month after the suicide baiting death of my only child Dylan Gifford Yount in Hallidie Plaza, San Francisco, on Shrove Tuesday 2010. A firm date for my personal deposition has still not been set that I know of, but I am hopeful that I will be deposed just prior to the beginning of the trial, in what will be, most likely, my final trip to San Francisco. I am grateful for the continued understanding and strong support I received from family and friends last week. Current inspiration today comes from two resources. First, Write what should not be forgotten, advises the Chilean novelist Isabel Allende. And I have been. And I still will. The constraints of the litigation process frustrate me to no end, though, and I am eager for this chapter to be legally finished inside a courtroom. Second, I remain hopeful that something good can come from Dylans brutal death -- specifically, that the SFPD will adopt Crisis Intervention Training -- in earnest, rather than just in token lip service. How this training, mandated for the SFPD in both 2001 and 2011, can be ignored is beyond me. This situation should raise red flags at all levels of San Francisco government. Since CIT is usually a collaborative effort between community resources and the police, many qualified professionals would most likely offer this service at no charge. Just this morning, in fact, a school psychologist from Concord, CA (whom many of us know quite well) said she would teach the police without charge. I know I would. No one else should ever die as Dylan did. CIT is much more than training, it is a commitment made to society. Whatever happens in Kathy Yount, Individually And In Her Capacity As v. City and County Of San Francisco Et Al, the verdict will either diminish us or lift us up. The photos I post today from 1985 (Dylans third grade class pic) and 2009 (his last summer). Much love, Kathie, Dylans mom, now and forever
