Counter the argument about rising gas prices with the facts: The proposed price increases for gas are being driven by the CSG industry to put pressure on the NSW government and to turn public support against any environmental restrictions placed upon it as any such government legislation might prevent their pursuit of profits at the expense of our water, land and air. Price rises will not be due to lack of supply as the industry would like us to believe; but rather they will be caused by industry needs for greater profits in order to pay for the infrastructure required to link up to the LNG port facilities that are currently under construction in Gladstone, Qld. This linkage will enable CSG miners in NSW to export to the more lucrative international markets where prices are almost three times higher than domestic gas prices. The CSG industry, and its political proponents, are currently blaming these price increases on the environmental protection measures that many of us have worked so hard to achieve. It appears the CSG industry want us to help them triple their profits by ‘footing the bill’ for the infrastructure they need to build in order to hasten the devastation of our environment. CSG is an exploitative industry and it puts profits before people. There is no consideration given to the future needs of Australians for a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. Is this the legacy we want to leave our children and grandchildren? Their needs, and ours, must be put before their profits of the CSG industry. No one can drink gas or eat coal.
